Focus on Things Above

Sermon Summary:

•  The thesis statement of this section of scripture is “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” ·        
• This Scripture lays out a list of sins and a list of virtues.    
  • If we focus on the things of this world we will succumb to these sins but if we focus on the things above we will display those virtues.      
•  Let`s unpack some of the sins and virtues as examples: 
  •   Anger: 
    • We get angry because we are hurt, and the more we are focused on ourselves the more it hurts. o  
  • Greed: 
    •  We are greedy because money and possession matter more to us than God. 
  •   Patience: 
    •  We are impatient because we covet our time, but if we focus on this above we will not be concerned with`` wasted time.`` 
  •  Peace: 
    • We lack inner peace because we are too concerned with the worries of this world, but if we focus on God we trust in him. ·       
•  If we are too focused on the things of this world we will fall to the worldly sins, but if we are focused on things above we will display Godly virtues.
